The African American Women Health and Education Foundation (the "Foundation") is a spin-off from the League of African American Women. Both organizations, founded by Congresswoman Juanita Millender McDonald, represent a growing concern among women who recognize the need to address health and education related issues affecting our community.

The Foundation raises awareness and resources to support HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment among minority women and children. World AIDS Day focused on women and girls, and to highlight the challenges facing these groups. HIV/AIDS is threatening recent positive gains in basic education and disproportionately affecting girl’s primary school
enrollments. Education is one of the key defenses against the spread of HIV.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization whose proceeds from the Walk benefit several clinics treat-ing AIDS patients: Charles Drew Oasis Clinic, Harbor-UCLA Pediatrics AIDS Unit, T.H.E. Clinic, Watts Healthcare Corp, Long Beach Memorial Pediatrics AIDS Clinic and the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team.
